Coverall in Kakishibu
by Yoko Sakamoto
Coverall jacket by Yoko Sakamoto in natural kakishibu (persimmon tannin) dyed raw denim with a rugged character, unpainted iron tuck buttons and three generously sized patched front pockets.
A contemporary take on vintage workwear.
This exceptional selvedge denim, woven in Okayama Prefecture on traditional shuttle looms, embodies the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship. Slowly and meticulously woven, the raw denim is untouched by modern finishing processes, preserving its unique character and inherent beauty. The low-production process, a hallmark of these vintage machines, yields a fabric with a distinctive texture – both crisp and substantial – achieved without undue tension on the warp yarns. Carefully selected cotton fibers, scrutinized for their texture and length, are spun with meticulous attention to twist and shape, resulting in a denim with a remarkable hand feel.
Each garment is meticulously hand-dyed by skilled artisans at a historic Kyoto dyehouse. The result is a denim with exceptional depth of color and a unique character that will evolve beautifully with wear.
