Tin coated bowls by Hiroyo Masuko
by Hiroyo Masuko
Beautiful hand hamered bowls by Hiroyo Masuko with a slightly rough texture.
These pieces are handcrafted by shaping brass plates using a hammer and a ategane (anvil stake). A traditional metalworking technique called "tankin" or "tuiki" in Japanese.
The surface is coated with pure tin, a traditional process known in Japanese as "suzubiki". Tin-plating has long been used to prevent tarnishing on the inside of copper or brass pots and kettles.
It will very slowly darken over time.
