cocoon hemp bag kaki shibu black

Cocoon hemp bag by somafolk

This bag is hand knitted with raw hemp grown by the Hmong tribe in Northern Thailand. It is dyed in Japan and Singapore with kaki shibu, using persimmons grown in the mountains of Kyoto. It is dyed and aged under the sun for a period of time. It might feel a little stiff initially but it will soften after time and use.

Somafolk uses all natural ingredients to make their products. As everything is hand dyed, natural uneveness and shades of colour may occur. Each piece is unique on its own. Darkeness or fading is also part of the nature of natural dye, and each piece will age beautifully as time goes by.

Kaki shibu is made from the juice of unripe persimmons, which is extracted and undergoes a process of fermentation and aging. Since ancient time, kaki shibu has been used to dye fabrics, wood and paper as it has strengthening, antiseptic, insecticidal, water resistant and anti-bacterial properties.
