Dark natural indigo washi hemp jacket
by Mittan
Roomy light jacket by Mittan in dark natural indigo washi-hemp with origami inspired pockets, designed so that their corners can be folded back allowing to function as flaps, compressed cotton (garment dyed) buttons and adjustable sleeve cuffs.
This original fabric is woven with washi yarn for the warp and hemp yarn for the weft. The washi yarn is made from strong Manila hemp grown in Ecuador, finely slit to under 1mm and twisted into a filament yarn. Lightweight and quick-drying, it produces minimal lint.
By combining the crisp firmness of washi with the suppleness of hemp, the fabric achieves a distinctive balance of texture—offering both a natural wrinkled appearance and a soft, flexible hand.
Knots and uneveness in the threads are part of the unique character of the natural materials.
Garment dyed in Kyoto, Japan, with natural indigo. A leguminous plant from India. The extracted indigo solution is chemically reduced and used for dyeing. It undergoes a process of oxidation, which fixes the color.
